Duke is Fun for the streets

The Duke 390 is the ultimate wolf in sheep’s clothing. It’s single cylinder engine comes in at a respectable 373cc’s, a bit larger than both the Ninja 300 or the the CBR 250, giving you more grunt when passing at higher speeds. With a single cylinder engine you expect more torque down low, and while the Duke 390 does have some, it really begins to shine in the mid range and higher RPM’s.

This is one bike that you can be a bit of a hooligan on. It will pull power wheelies if you give it a good helping of throttle and drop the clutch. Not many beginner bikes can say that!

Honda Civic, Honours for 2022

It’s been a good week for Honda Canada. The carmaker’s cars obviously made a strong impression on the members of the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). After naming the Civic the winner of its Bast Small Car award for 2022 yesterday, the association followed up today by bestowing of its Best Large Car award on the Accord midsize sedan.

Both announcements were made online, the auto shows that normally serve as the platform for announcing AJAC’s annual awards having been cancelled due to the arrival of Omicron variant in late 2021.

The awards tabulate votes collected from Canadian auto journalists from across the country who are members of AJAC. There are 13 categories in all, and this year’s finalists in each of those categories were announced last week.

Those gifted in math will know that the announcement of the first two category winners leaves another 11 categories to be announced. Presumably that means one new AJAC announcement per day, until all winners are known. After that, the association will name its two big winners, for Best Car and Best Utility Vehicle (encompassing SUVs, trucks and minivan) of the Year, later this month.

Honda’s run will end after today, though, since it has no nominees in the remaining categories.

Isuzu D-MAX: Off-Road Test

The D-Max X-Terrain is the top-spec variant in Isuzu’s ute range and, as part of a refresh for the entire D-Max range for 2022, this ute has had a few updates. The new X-Terrain, available from December 1, now has a tow bar receiver as standard and a 50kg increase to its Gross Combination Mass, as well as a switchable Lane Support System, and a few interior styling tweaks.

Does it represent good value for the price? What features does it come with?

Our test vehicle, the 22MY X-Terrain 4×4 auto, is priced at $65,900 but, time of writing, Isuzu was offering this variant at $62,990 as a special drive away price.It has a 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a part-time four-wheel drive system. Standard features include a 9.0-inch multimedia display with sat-nav, Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, an eight-speaker sound system, remote engine start, smart entry and start as well as roof rails, an under-rail tub liner, a hard roller cover on the tray, sports bar, front and rear underbody spoilers, and 18-inch dark grey metallic alloy wheels with 265/60R18 Bridgestone 684II HT tyres.

Portfolio with Multivan Kombi

Volkswagen Philippines is boosting its lineup with another global model as it formally introduced the Volkswagen Multivan Kombi.

The highly awaited Kombi nameplate — which gained popularity in last half of the 20th century — is the second global model offered to the country after the brand refreshed its lineup back in 2018. The first model, which was launched last May, is the T-Cross.

Then famously known as the Microbus or “hippie van,” the comebacking Kombi is now powered by a 2.0-liter 330 TDI diesel engine that can produce up to 148hp and 340Nm torque. Mated to a seven-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) with Tiptronic function and coasting feature, the latest version of the Volkswagen’s people carrier is expected to provide a smooth driving experience.
